Carrington Cascade

To the south of Sydney, about 2 hours drive, is an incredibly diverse landscape known as the Southern Highlands. This area of bush and rivers covers an escarpment above the south coast of NSW. Local townships like Roberston and Bowral provide a great base from which to explore these areas. In this image the upper reaches of the Kangaroo River flow to the edge of the escarpment. At this stage the river flows accross a sandstone cascade for around 100m before flowing over the Carrington Falls down into Kangaroo Valley. These cascades are a lovely series of small rock pools, swimming holes and tiny rapids. Many people of the area come to picnic, swim and play in the water. Nearby Nellies Glen is another natural attraction. This image is part of a series that that I have been working towards for several years. During my Masters degree I was reading works by environmental author David Suzuki. He has ideas about small communities that resonated with me. I was trying to find a way to illustrate these ideas of working, living, growing food and learning within a small geographical area. In a way it is a positive insularity. After much trial and error I combined several existing techniques to create an original photographic approach that captures in amazing detail and clarity a panorama into a circular image. I call these images CircPan (circular panorama). The images have the look of an aerial photograph, in this case shot from a boat in the Harbour. They are a unique approach to landscape photography. This is a limited edition print series. The image you purchase will be hand numbered and embossed. The edition range is /315. The image will be posted to you rolled in a tube. There are several framing options, a classic black or white timber frame, or a simple pale natural timber.
